Quarterly MDT Corner

family services image

Welcome to the MDT Corner! This quarterly blog post will be where we distribute updates specifically geared toward our multidisciplinary team (MDT) members. We will also include these updates in our quarterly email newsletter.

Your Feedback Matters!

We are so grateful to the multidisciplinary team members who participated in our recent focus groups! Your feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. The results are available here.

Route to Re-Accreditation

CornerHouse is undergoing re-accreditation as a children’s advocacy center this year, as we do every five years. The National Children’s Alliance accredits almost 900 centers across the country! We submitted our application in February, and we will have a site visit on August 9th. More information about the standards for accreditation is available here.

National Children’s Alliance 2018 Annual Report

This year, Stories from the Frontlines profiles of children’s advocacy center heroes all around the country are highlighted, working to expand access to services and do more for kids, with NCA’s help. Read their annual report here.

Wondering how to answer questions about the forensic medical exam?

We know it can be difficult to help caregivers understand the benefits of a forensic medical exam. Please consider using this resource as a guide.

CornerHouse Briefing: Pursuing Justice Together

We are currently accepting registrations for the next CornerHouse Briefing on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM! New multidisciplinary team members (including law enforcement, child protection, victim witness advocates, mental health providers, medical personnel and prosecutors) will get an overview of CornerHouse services, a tour of the facility, and ideas about how to partner effectively with us. They will also get to see a tape of a forensic interview and role plays of the pre-interview and post-interview team meetings! CEUs are approved for social workers, legal professionals, and law enforcement officers. Please RSVP with Melissa Henry at 612-813-8310 or or 612-813-8310. You can learn more on our flyer here. Please share this opportunity with your colleagues!

Free Multidisciplinary Team Education for Hennepin County Investigators Available

Former Brooklyn Center Police officer, Bill Koncar, (currently a Forensic Interviewer at CornerHouse) and Lauren Glass, a CornerHouse Family Services Case Manager, are available to provide training (of any length) to police departments and other MDT partners regarding CornerHouse’s practices and procedures. This session may be especially helpful for new investigators, but may also be helpful for patrol officers and anyone else who comes into contact with children or adolescents who may have experienced or witnessed abuse. This well-regarded education session has already been provided to a number of Hennepin County Police Departments, including Minnetrista, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, St. Louis Park, and Richfield. Please contact Bill at 612-813-8327 or to schedule your department's session today. Other training may be available for partners outside Hennepin County.
